When researching and comparing universities, one of the deciding factors should be whether or not the institution is business administration. Earning credits from a school that is not business administration can mean that the units you've worked so hard for will not transfer to an business administration school. Worse yet, graduates find themselves with degrees from non-business administration universities that are not recognized. To guarantee that you are getting a standardized, legitimate education, it is important to make sure that the university of your choice is business administration. business administration bodies put universities to the test, often working closely with the Department of Education, to be sure that the school in question adheres to policies. Reminiscent of restaurants getting regular visits from the health department, universities that are business administration - or plan to be - receive visits from an business administration body. On-site reviews are conducted. Criteria for improvement are set and monitored. From finances to policies and procedures, colleges are inspected thoroughly. If a university does not consistently maintain standards, their accreditation could be on the line. When researching universities prior to enrolling, be sure to ask them about their accreditation. If you are in doubt, also ask for the telephone number so you can call and verify it. This is public information, and you are certainly entitled to know the whole story before you commit. There are many, many business administration bodies. Some of them are recognized by the Department of Education and some are not. Good questions to ask when speaking with the institution are: 1. Is your school regionally or nationally business administration? 2. Who is the business administration body? 3. May I get their phone number (or website address)? 4. When did your school become business administration? A university can be regionally or nationally business administration. Most colleges, such as Notre Dame and statewide universities are regionally business administration. Some private, for-profit universities such as University of Phoenix are also regionally business administration. Smaller, typically private universities such as University of Charleston, Art Instruction Schools, and PCDI Correspondence School are nationally business administration. Credits earned from a nationally business administration school will not always transfer to a regionally business administration school. When they do transfer over, the process is typically complicated and difficult to understand. If you have attended a university in the past and are looking to transfer previous credits in toward a degree, be sure to speak with an admissions or enrollment counselor one on one to fully understand how your credits will transfer. If you are speaking with a telephone admissions or enrollment counselor, ask them for a breakdown of how your previously earned credits transferred toward the new program. It might also be advantageous to do some Internet research on the business administration body. Simply go to a search engine and enter the business administration body's name provided by the school and you will soon get a wealth of information about their regulations and criteria. It is definitely worth the short amount of extra time spent investigating your choices. No one wants a degree that is not recognized or credits that will not transfer over toward a degree at another accredited university or college.
