Any member of the health care management team that heads a department, such as director of radiology or chief record administrator, will have solid work experience or a field-specific degree from an institute of higher learning.

Education

Health care management candidates come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. While it is possible to gain an entry-level position in management with a high-school diploma, most administrators have at least some training in health care. Higher level executives usually have a business degree along with a background in health care. Many colleges and universities now offer B.S. and M.S. degrees in Health Care administration. To reach the top earning bracket in the field, it is advisable to pursue the highest educational certification possible within your means.

The demand for health care management professionals is growing faster than average and is projected to grow even more through 2016. Qualified health care management executives and administrators are needed in a large number of health settings across the country.
