About Contract Administration
The responsibility of contract administrators is to draw up the terms of a contract and its proper execution. For carrying out this responsibility, contract managers have to work with companies while drafting the contracts, inform them of their rights and obligations and help the company maximize its profit. In certain cases, contract managers are also required to work as purchasing managers or specialists for business firms.
A student must receive contract administration training after completing his certificate program in the same field. A trainee must undertake at least 30 to 60 hours of contract administration coursework on the various stages of creating, negotiating and implementing a contract. A thoroughly trained candidate has vast career opportunities with academic institutions, labor unions, private businesses or law firms.
The coursework of an online certificate program in contract management might vary slightly in its content but students learn about business law, acquisitions, various contract management methods and other financial and legal topics. However, students will develop practical skills like contract administration, cost and price analysis, negotiation & modification, contract drafting and interpreting, contractual risks identification and contract stipulations communication.
However, for getting work in high-ranking corporate and government sectors, it is best for a student to obtain an Associate of Arts degree in Contract Management or a bachelor’s degree. For gaining an innate understanding of the complex economy and rapidly changing international laws, a student will have to gain a specialized training, followed by a certification.
Having completed their certification or degree programs, students can pursue a wide range of careers like contract administrator, contract manager, business development manager, sales manager, project manager, purchasing manager and purchasing specialist. The salary of the contract administrators will vary with their positions but in an average, they can earn $72,450 annually.
